What inspired you to pursue a career in film/TV?I have always loved TV/Film but would just spectate and watch from afar. I decided that it was finally time to take a risk and live the kind of life that I want and switch to a creative career.
What are some goals you hope to achieve in your career?Work on and design intros for stories that resonate and life with the audience. For a while, this was me making my own projects and designs complete with music to go with, however, I have shifted my focus to designing intros and opening credits for TV and Film projects. (Technically not VFX)
How do you manage creative blocks or periods of low inspiration??Oddly, the thing that I do is the opposite of what you would think makes sense. I take a step away and give my mind/brain a break. I find that the longer and the harder I stare at something that I am trying to solve, the less the idea comes to me. Lots of times, giving my brain a break helps the ideas to start flowing back in. I will then go to the museum or go to a movie or clean - cleaning is a weird activity that I find helps because it’s very analog and doesn’t involve a computer.
Can you share a story about a particularly challenging or rewarding project or incident that shaped your career? The story that I like to tell is that, years ago, I didn’t even know how to do any of the things that I am doing right now. I had basically drawing and painting skills but had no knowledge of the programs that I use today. So I had to learn them from the ground up (this was during covid, specifically). Coming out on the other side of that I am a lot further than I would have been had I never tried. The best part is that I will never be bored because there is a ton to learn - I mean a ton…and it changes every day.
What legacy do you hope to leave behind, and how do you want to be remembered?I am not sure about legacy per se, but one thing that I remember hearing is that people remember how you make them feel. If I can affect how people feel with something that I create, even for a moment, then that means the world to me. That feels more important than buildings, plaques, statues, etc.
Who are some of your early influences?I am a comic book lover and at one time, wanted to be a comic book artist. So a lot of the things that I loved (and still do) are comics from the 90s (X-men, Spiderman, etc.), and then of course there are all the movies from the 80s on up that I watched non-stop as a kid. In addition, let’s not forget the movie intros (all of the James Bond intros are really engaging if you go back and watch them). They are all really cool and inspirational stuff that I still think about and use in my work today.
Are you working on anything right now that you can share?I just finished a brand video project for a NJ beer brand company. They were looking for a way to make their brand video more interesting, engaging, and visually exciting.
There are a bunch of other projects as well that I have completed, along with other experimental ideas here: https://www.behance.net/moebocop
